An island of serenity in the bustling streams of the Quartier Latin, the Garden of Luxembourg (or Luco as locals call it) for many years already remains a favourite among townspeople.
Its central part is shaped by a formal garden with the Florentine-style Luxembourg palace (now host to the French Senate), the Grand Bassin – a pond, where future seamen come to sail their first boats, and the fountain of Marie de Medicis.
West part of Luxembourg with shady twisting alleys and lush greenery was created at a later stage, as an Anglo-Chinois landscape garden.
The garden is open all year, from 7am to 1 hour before sunset in summer and 8am to 1 hour before sunset in winter.
