The foot and surroundings of the Eiffel tower are clothed in verdure of the Parc du Champs de Mars. Originally designed for military trainings of the neighbouring École Militaire (Military School), today the park, named after Mars – the Roman god of war – became a popular promenade area.
Its scenic parterres with serpentine walks, old trees, grottoes, ornamental ponds and green lawns tempt a visitor to slow down and spend a few lazy moments under the shade of the Eiffel tower, where else could you find such an incredible perspective?
So that’s indeed what many people do here – make picnics, meet with friends and walk with children, acquiring their urban tan and watching Paris go by.
