The Jardin des Plantes is the main botanical garden in France.
It was originally planted by Guy de La Brosse, Louis XIII's physician, in 1626 as a medicinal herb garden. It was originally known as the Jardin du Roi. In 1640 it opened to the public.
The Alpine garden has over 3000 species of plants from all over the world.
Located near the metro stations: Quai de la Rapée, Jussieu, Censier - Daubenton or Gare d'Austerlitz.
Hours: 7.30am to 5.30pm in winter, and until 8pm in summer.
